| For Mexico's Female Soccer Players, Professional Recognition At Last For the first time, the country saw female athletes play in a professional league of its most popular sport: soccer. Pumas, one of Mexico City's teams, plays in a lush field at the bottom of a quarry. On a recent Saturday, 800 people showed up to watch the home team against out-of-town visitors Monarchs.
